Swot analysis

 After 25 years of consulting for many businesses in a variety of different industries, it became obvious how necessary, and how well received our first step of conducting a SWOT analysis has been for all our clients.  
 

We have done this for small, large, public, private, domestic and international companies. We interview all appropriate people including customers, employees, upper management, lawyers, accountants, landlords, etc. Anyone and everyone who may have valuable input as to how to help the company improve.  
 

After the “digging” has been completed, we present a detailed report accompanied by strategic and tactical spreadsheets that spell out recommended “To do lists”, projects, timelines, point people, and estimated costs. Once ownership has approved the plan, we get to work on accomplishing as much as the client wants to assign to us. We are also available to coach/assist company employees on projects assigned to them.

Why do a SWOT analysis?

Get the true picture as to what your businesses strengths and weaknesses really are, and what the opportunities and threats are that you should be considering and dealing with. All businesses should conduct an unbiased SWOT analysis at least once a year. Remember...your perceptions of your business may be very different than your employee's or customer's/client's perceptions and the best way to improve your business is to have an understanding of both.  

Why have an "outsider" do a SWOT analysis for you?

Refer to above use of the word "unbiased". Too many times employees are reluctant to speak up to others in the company for fear of repercussions or even loss of job. Some just find it difficult to open up to others in the company due to personal relationships. We also have found many times where employees have never even been given the chance to express their views, or make suggestions. Just because someone is at a lower level doesn't mean they aren't observant or don't have valuable inputs.  
 

We are careful to make sure all participants understand that all of their comments will be noted, but that ownership/management always reserves the right to make the decisions they feel are best for the company.
